A Season of Influence for the Women of God: Embracing our God-given identity, authority, and purpose as we make our mark on history
As women, we are designed and called to have great and lasting influence in this country and in the Kingdom of God, serving those who so desperately need us – young and old, male and female, weak and strong . Erin will highlight some of the women who have already made their mark in history, and urge us to embrace our own God-given identity, authority, and purpose. We’re called to advance into the darkness and support those who are doing the same. We serve a God of limitless possibilities and infinite love. As women created in the image of God, filled with His Spirit and sent forth by His Son – the lover of our souls and light of our lives – we can also make our mark on history. When we live what love is, miracles happen!
From the Darkness of Oppression into the Light of Liberty: Sacrificing in the present on behalf of our nation’s youth.
The light of liberty shines brightest where the champions of freedom are willing to sacrifice their comfort and a self-serving lifestyle to secure and sustain that liberty. If we ignore the laws of love and life bestowed by our Creator, in favor of exploiting the destructive excesses that the law of our land allows, we do so at our peril. This is a concept that many of our youth do not understand. Freedom in itself does not make us honorable. For most of us here in America, it is our inheritance, not something we have earned. And right now, in our country, it’s clear we are vulnerable to losing it all. If we step up, speak out, and model the principles of freedom, our youth can follow our lead into a brighter future.
The Streets are Unforgiving: Meeting the needs of the almost-broken
The young woman, dejected and unwashed, was pushing a rusty grocery cart with all of her possessions down a street in downtown Denver, Colorado. I stopped and we talked. Her life was saturated with darkness and pain. She told me she was addicted to drugs.
She talked about being abused and raped many times. That didn’t surprise me; it is the plight of so many women on the streets. Jessica (not her real name) began crying and couldn’t stop. She thought she had no escape, yet she had a mother who was terribly worried about her and wanted her to come home. Rehab would have been an option. She was close to the Denver Rescue Mission, funded by generous individuals and groups. This faith-based mission joins hands with civil and government-funded agencies to help meet the needs of the almost-broken. I was moved when Jessica showed me the tattoo on her arm. It said, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”* When family, faith, and government work together, there is great reason for hope. If Jessica didn’t break, and was able to choose love and life, perhaps this beautiful young woman will finally find peace.
